Obituary

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, Samuel Jay Goldman passed away at the age of 80. Samuel, known as Bop to many, was born on August 4, 1940 in St. Louis, MO to Morris and Rose (Mestman). He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University. He worked as an Internal Auditor for The Northern Trust Company for over 30 years. Samuel married Bobbie on October 28, 1962. His love and care for his wife was endless. After meeting in college, they never left each other’s side. They cherished attending the theatre together and showed affection through nicknames. They loved spending time in Palm Springs, especially at Billy Reeds. They raised three sons, Neal, Rick, and Andy at their beloved house on Farnsworth. Samuel spent his retirement playing an active role in his grandchildren’s lives. He was a big-hearted role model who was always there for them. He loved making root beer floats at apartment 408 in San Diego, attending Pancake Breakfast at Lincoln School and on the 4th of July in Northbrook, and always remembered a special balcony dinner in Singapore. His profound enthusiasm for his grandchildren (known to him as Bello-Sita and Monair) and polk squeezes will be missed greatly. He found joy in spending Shabbat with his family, volunteering at The Chicago Botanic Gardens, taking classes and attending football games at Northwestern, traveling the world on cruises, and kibitzing at The Birchwood Club. Samuel’s warm and silly spirit will be remembered by all he touched. He was the light of every room he entered, known for his sarcasm and brilliant mind. He lived his life fully, never said no, and had absolutely no regrets. His dedication to caring and being there for those he loved was extraordinary. Samuel is survived by his wife Bobbie, his three children, Neal (Debra), Rick (Jill), and Andy (Lauren), and his grandchildren Benji and Ellie.
